Why do poor children have poor diets?
There is a huge but simple piece of the puzzle that doesn’t get much airplay.
1. Kids are naturally picky, most of them approach novel foods with stubborn scepticism, it generally takes eight to 15 attempts for them to warm to more adventurous flavours. Even things like broccoli can be shocking to a young palate.
2. Families on limited incomes simply can’t afford eight to 15 failed attempts – it’s too expensive.
